Step 5: insert the pictures in the game

Open tim2view and open the big file (PE.IMG). Then click on the picture that you want to replace and press Ctrl+R to replace the TIM file. Remember that the character set is duplicated (#3 and #27). That's it, no need to save the file, the pictures are already inserted.

  1. When replacing the file, will it accept any other file type besides .TIM? I'm having a bit of trouble finding a copy of Photoshop 3.0 for the TIM plugin to work with, and every other program that can read the file type can't write to it.

  2. You can use the TIM plugin with any Photoshop version, not only 3.0.

  3. Really? I tried to use it with CC by dropping it into the plugins folder and it didn't seem to work. I'll give it another try I suppose.

    1. I forgot to say that you should use the 32-bit version of Photoshop, the 64-bit version is not compatible with the TIM plugin.

    2. Also, just so you know, Adobe stopped supporting 32-bit as of CC 2019, so I did have do download the version just before that.

    3. Ok thanks. In which language are you translating the game? Or what do you plan to do exactly?

    4. I'm doing a full-scale revision of the original English script called "Parasite Eve Respliced". I'm not retranslating it from original Japanese or anything, I'm just going through the game (my first time actually playing it myself lol) and making the dialogue sound more natural. Like many Squaresoft games of the era, the intrigue and dramatic potential of PE's story had to shine through an extremely poor original translation, so I wanted to make a version where the script actually bolsters it instead of hindering it.

I only wanted to edit two images ultimately (though I may do more if I feel it's necessary): the title screen in order to add the "Respliced" subtitle, and the world map graphic of "Soho" to change it to "SoHo", as it is more commonly spelled by New Yorkers with a capital H.
